I realized that I like running the wandering halflings as my settings traders, partially because of their nature. However, the PF halfling doesn’t actually have a lot to support that other than the Alternate Racial Trait Polygot. Thus, I wanted to build a couple of Alternate Racial traits that could add in a really cool way. On top of this, I’ve added a suggested subrace, as well as some different Favored Class bonuses.
Better Packing: A halfling adds +4 to his strength for determining carrying capacity. He also is unencumbered by a medium load as if it were a light load. Finally, he can cast Ant Haul 1/day at a caster level equal to his HD. This replaces Halfling Luck.
Worth a Coin: A Halfling receives a +2 racial bonus on Appraise checks and Bluff and Diplomacy checks to haggle. This replaces Sure-Footed.
New Subrace Template
Silverfoot Halflings: The Silverfoot halflings bring wanderlust to a new art, carrying almost inexplicable amounts of goods with them as they travel from place to place. Silverfoot halflings typically have Better Packing, Polygot, and Worth a Coin to represent their role as the premier traveling merchants of the region.
Alternate Favored Class bonuses
These options correspond to the Silverfoot halflings. A halfling with the Better Packing Racial trait or both Polygot and Worth a Coin racial traits (or a creature that has taken a trait representing being raised by the Silverfoot halflings) can take these instead of their normal favored class bonus, +1 hp, or +1 skill point. The character must choose 1 alternate favored class bonus when he takes a bonus other than +1 hp or +1 skill point. This becomes the only favored class bonus he can choose for that class.
Cavalier: Your bonded mount gains +1 strength only for the purposes of carrying capacity.
Rogue: Add +1/2 to Appraise and Linguistics checks.
Ranger: Add +1/2 to all checks to Bargain against favored enemies as well as +1/2 to Survival checks to avoid getting lost.
Wizard: Add +1/2 to spellcraft to identify magical items and +1 round duration to the identify spell.
General Favored Class bonus
Any halfling can take this favored class bonus instead of +1 hp, +1 skill point, or their alternate favored class bonus. The halfling must choose 1 alternate favored class bonus when he takes a bonus other than +1 hp or +1 skill point. This becomes the only favored class bonus he can choose for that class.
Fighter: Add 2.5 feet to the range of any weapon with Sling in it’s name. This has no effect except in increments of 5 feet.
